User testing

First Click Test

Number of participants: 8
The first click test was conducted to inspect the clarity of my design. I specifically wanted to discover if my hand-drawn icons were understandable. In addition, I wanted to find out if the buttons stood out and were clear.

Task 1
You wish to add a photo from gallery. Where would you click to add a photo from gallery?

Results:
Only 2 participants did not select the gallery button. This implies that most participants understood the hand-drawn gallery icon and the floating button is clear.

    Task 2
You wish to have a monthly calendar view of the days you have uploaded photos. Where would you click?

    Results:
All participants selected the calendar button. Therefore, I am confident that the calendar icon is understandable and that the hierarchy of the design is clear.

    Task 3
You would like to change the year. Where would you click to change to a different year?

    Results:
Almost all participants selected the button, 2023 or 2024. The buttons are obvious and easily understood.

    Five Seconds Test

    Number of participants: 10
A 5-seconds test was conducted on the screens with lots of information. I wanted to check if the wording was clear and concise. Further, I tested a purposely badly designed screen to understand peoples’ reactions to such a screen.

    Task 1
You would like to change the upload limit of the day. Which topic under settings would you choose?

    Results:
None of the participants chose the correct topic. Some participants did not provide an answer. Those who answered used the words ‘Upload limit’, and ‘Change limit’.

This implies that perhaps the phrase ‘Manage Photo Limit’ is not appropriate and causing confusion.

Key answers: Change limit | Upload limit |
    No response

    Task 2
    1. You would like to set the upload limit to five photos. How would you do that?
    2. Would you have difficulty, or feel like it is an inconvenience to use such a screen?

    Results:
Surprisingly most participants understood the task and the screen.

However, in response to the second question, many participants agreed that it was difficult to use and there was an overload of information.

One participant thought that the screen was breaking down, and was slightly confused. Therefore, I think there should be a small explanation about the design of the screens leading up to this screen

Key answers: Information overload  | Screen breakdown | Intentional?

    Screen reiteration
